Wine Guest Writer : K.T. on Japanese Wine

-
-

We have a Wine Guest Writer K.T. today who is a new proud owner of a east coast condo (though quite puny in size) but relatively quite impressive modern deco with crystal lighting over her dining table.

"Have u tried the wine that i bought from Japan? i tried mine today with my friends, i dun reallie noe how to describe it, its very sour when i taste it but then there is absolutely no lingering taste of sourness on the tongue at all unlike most wines. Amazing!"

You must admit it sounds quite amateurish, but you have to give her credit for trying. And somemore trying a wine that comes for a country more well know for Kimonos, Raw Fish, Sake and Samurais than Wine. Well at least you can say that the wine is really unique and you cannot get it in Singapore as no one in Singapore will import it...I will try my bottle too and let you all know if I have the same evaluation as she.

Wine Tasting : Rochester Road Mount Riley Riesling Wine 2003(New Zealand)

-
-

The bunch of us (KT, J.Lim, Gracie and us) went to check out the new happening place at Rochester Park. The place is also featured in today’s Sunday Plus. It is really quite crowded for such a obscure location. We could not get a place at One Rochester and so we went to Dao Paolo Bistro Bar. The place was with a theme safari concept with even some “ang mo” models dressed up in safari gear. The wine was considerably more expensive than Dempsey road at $68 per bottle before taxes, and the Italian cheese plate which you see KT posing with was $18 with a few slices of cheese (though they were very nice and unique). But the breadsticks were soft and soggy.

Smell : Intensely aromatic exhibiting flora and line aromas

Taste : Soft and long with a hint of sweetness to balance out the acidity.
Though personally we felt that the wine became more bitter as we were finishing the bottle.

Wine Entry : Chateau Combet La Roche MonBazillac 2002 (French)

-
-

Believe that this wine is also from Carrefour, it’s a MonBazillac wine which is in the same style as the Sauternes wines that are so renowned. However, I felt it was somewhat lacking the finesse and class that Sauternes wines have. Could be money better spent in getting the Sauternes, but this is the first MonBazillac wine I have tasted, it’s quite rare to get it here, maybe others are better?

Smell : Light, slightly sweet, flora nectar, greenish.

Taste : Light tangerine, not overpowering sweet, bitterness lingers with a scent of reminiscence of kerosene.

After-taste : Quick finish, strong orange peel after-taste.

Wine Entry : Moscato Lemnos Liqueur Wine (Greek)

-
-
Apologises for not keeping the blog up to date, been an exciting week of elections here in Singapore and kept myself by following up with the news. Guess next month will be the same problem with the World Cup on. This bottle was purchased during a previous Carrefour wine fair, there is always a nice Greek lady from LinkOp Pte Ltd introducing their wines. A 500ml bottle so slightly unique size considering most are 375ml or 750ml.

Smell : Liquorish honey-lemon with a strong alcoholic smell

Taste : Intense honey with a slight bitter-lemon taste

After-taste : Bitterness lingers on with a warm feeling of alcohol.

Description at back of bottle :
Originates from the sunny island of Lemnos where the superb Muscat of Alexandria grape grows. A wonderfully harmonious and elegant liquer wine, deep gold in colour exploding with orange peel, drier apricot and rose petals flavours, silky smooth and round on the palate. Best enjoyed either chilled as an aperitif, or an accompaniment to fresh fruit salads, melon and prosciutto dishes and traditional greek desserts, or as an after dinner dessert drink.
