Wine Guest Writer: KT

Hello Folks,

My cousin bought a lovely beautiful German Riesling Auslese wine called Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen from Parkway Parade Bottle & Bottles for 40 bucks and we guzzled it today at Wine Bar Lorong K.

My cousin went abit ku ku as usual and started yelling out " HAAAAATTENHAAAAAAAAAMER NUSSSSSSSSSSSSSBRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAANEN" the whole night ala a Bravarian Barmaid but it was really hilarious! hehehehe. ;)

This is a fantastic fantastic value for money great wine!! Its a less sweet version of the Trockenberrenauslese but extremely easy to drink and very very mellow.

Pale colour; minerally, green nut and citrus nose, high toned; amazingly sweet honey and peach flavours, concentrated, thick on the palate that moves from peach to a spicy, honeyed grapefruit flavour; hefty and soft; acid masked by the sweetness of the fruit.

Guest Writer KT: Rio Alto Rose

Hello folks!

Something's up when u have 2 straight consecutive wine entries in a row and winedragon is lagging behind. He's probably stuck cleaning toilets as he's on reservist. heheh.

I went to the wine hut again on friday night with some friends from Uni and we tried this chilean wine, Rio Alto Rose.

Taste: Strawberry with floral overtones

Smell: The acidic tone was abit too much though

After taste: The acidic taste lingers on

Guest Writer KT: Sangiovese

Hello folks,

I had the pleasure of trying out this red wine, Sangiovese at this extremely beautiful and off the beaten track Italian restaurant @ Upper East Coast Road called Porta Porta. Do go to http://www.borengineer.blogspot.com for a review on this great restaurant that ranks number 1 currently on my list. :)

Italian immigrants from Tuscany probably introduced the Sangiovese grape to California in the late 1800s, possibly at the Segheshio Family's "Chianti Station," near Geyserville. It is one of several varietal components of the field blend in many old North Coast and Gold Country vineyards that are often otherwise identified as Zinfandel.
Sanguis Jovis, the Latin origin for the varietal name, literally means "blood of Jove" and it is likely that Sangiovese (a.k.a. Sangioveto or San Gioveto) was known by Etruscan winemakers, although the first literary reference to it was in 1722. It is probably indigenous to Tuscany, whose most famous wine is Chianti.

Taste: Pleasant without any tannic after taste, black currant? Plum, orange peel with spices of clove and thyme

Wine Guest Write: KT

Hi folks,

I held a bday party/mahjong party for one of my best friends, Weishan @ my Lorong K hideaway last evening and we opened this wine that i have been dying to try since my other bunch of friends gave it to me and its the " Casillero del diablo "

(I received a new bottle of red wine but i'd leave it for another day)

The Casillero del Diablo that i have is a 2003 Chardonnay from Chile. It has an interesting story to it and it began more than a 100 yrs ago when Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, founder of the winery, reserved for himself an exclusive batch of the best wines they produced. And to keep strangers away from this private reserve, he spread the rumour that the Devil lived in that place. Hence the name Casillero del Diablo: Cellar of the Devil.

Anyway forgive the following amateurish review:

Smell: Lemony, pineapples against the backdrop of vanilla

Taste: Green apples, pineapple and strong lemon/citric flavour

After taste: The entire citric burst of pineapples and citric is pretty apparent

Not a bad choice if you are serving fish, pasta or with salads... :)

Wine Guest Writer: KT

Hi folks, I shall attempt to do a more "got standard" wine entry for Desdragon.

Went to the Wine Hut yesterday, which i must say serves excellent food, the cheese platter, seafood basket, escargot and chicken wings are to die for.

Anyway not to take the pleasure away from the wine, we chose this from Legends Estate Winery, Ice Pinot Noir, which was a sweet red wine.

Smell: Sweet butterscotch, cherries and strawberry

Taste: The strawberry taste hits you first and it may be a tad sweet for guys who prefer the spicy and strong tannic taste of red wines. But i am guessing this is probably a desert wine. The sweetness is actually rather smooth. The aftertaste definitely is rather butterscotchy. (If there is such a description)

Anyway i will leave the proper review of Wine Hut to Desdragon...

Wine Guest Writer : K.T. on the spiffy wine opener

-
-

Once again we have our guest writer K.T. writing on a wine opener...it is a much improved version and I laud her on her effort. Though I have done also a little editing, the gist is there.

"Guest writer KT has decided to write a review of spiffy wine opener that Desdragon got for me during Christmas, i will get a foto of it and post it on the blog, unless desdragon has a photo of it...

Aesthetics: Excellent, its modern and sleek looking, just the perfect look for those with a retro swedish modern kitchen like mine ( haha, retro modern. Hows that for confusion?)

Ease of Usage: My friends and me had a difficult time at the beginning because we didnt kiap (ok ok, clasp) the neck of the wine bottle properly, but after reading the instructions properly, it was a breeze. We didn't have to use much strength as well.

Overall opinion: Excellent gift and practical as well since i have been converted to a wine drinker by Desdragon! May i uncork the TBA with ease and elegance on the 17th.. =) "

Wine Guest Writer : K.T. on Japanese Wine

-
-

We have a Wine Guest Writer K.T. today who is a new proud owner of a east coast condo (though quite puny in size) but relatively quite impressive modern deco with crystal lighting over her dining table.

"Have u tried the wine that i bought from Japan? i tried mine today with my friends, i dun reallie noe how to describe it, its very sour when i taste it but then there is absolutely no lingering taste of sourness on the tongue at all unlike most wines. Amazing!"

You must admit it sounds quite amateurish, but you have to give her credit for trying. And somemore trying a wine that comes for a country more well know for Kimonos, Raw Fish, Sake and Samurais than Wine. Well at least you can say that the wine is really unique and you cannot get it in Singapore as no one in Singapore will import it...I will try my bottle too and let you all know if I have the same evaluation as she.
