Wine News : Giant Sale - Tall Horse wines

-

Giant is having another promotion on their wines. The truth is that I have never tasted Tall Horse wines. But it being South African, I think it is worth a try, though I wouldn't put too much hope except for expecting a fruity uncomplicated wine.

The attraction is probably the 4 glasses of Riedel Ouverture Red Glasses FREE when you buy 24 bottles of wine. (i.e. 2 cases). So if you are a big quaffer, then the deal is pretty interesting. It does seem to be an overkill though.

Wine Sale : Crystal Wines -2005 on sale !

-

Crystal Wine is having a sale on 2005s. The prices have certainly been rising over the years!

"Tasting the 2005 red wines from the bottle, many of them three or four times, confirmed that this is the greatest vintage produced during my 30 years career"-Robert Parker

Little introduction is needed for the great Bordeaux. As much as we know the great wines Bordeaux is capable of producing, the 2005 is going to be the vintage to make the plunge!

The 2005 fortunately had a perfect growing season resulting in the amazing quality of wines it produced. Robert Parker's consistent scores of 95-100 points for countless wines in his review should further testify how great the 2005 vintage truly is!

As the 2005 Bordeaux vintage continues to receive high reviews, the demand for the wine continues to rise rapidly. With that, prices are continually to be mouth watering high!

Today Crystal Wines is offering you a great deal! Buy these stunning wines at up to 35.5% off! Hurry get them home for the 2005 Bordeaux vintage offers a valuable long-term investment!

-
Here are some pictures of the event...

Interesting buys..

Reserve der la comtesse 2007. $52
Reserve der la comtesse 2006 $69
Pichon lalande 2007 $149.9
Chateau Potensac 2007 magnum $79
Chateau Malartic Lagraviere 1995 375ml $49.90

Comments on Specials for the nite

I managed to get a sampling of these wines.

Ch. Lamothe Bergeron 2007
Nice fragrance and bouquet had my hopes up, but failed in the palate with overpowering spice and tannic that threw the wine out of balance.

Will I buy it? No

Ch De Pressac St. Emillion 2006
Almost no aromas on the nose. On the palate it was smooth and welcoming, with good length, but needs a few more years for aging.

Will I buy it ? A begrudging maybe

Wine Shop : Oaks Wine Cellar at Resorts World Sentosa

So this is where Oaks has opened a new store.... Resorts World Sentosa!
As per my recent post, they have moved out of from Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Orchard Road.

I guess the more well-heeled "Casino" customers are the target audience now. It appears that they have another new outlet at Marina Bay Sands as well.

Reputed for our personalised service, The Oaks Cellars offer a wide range of classified growth from Bordeaux and other top producers from distinguished wineries in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy and Spain to suit your palate and occasion at every price range. Wine Shop : Just opened ENOTECA Co. Ltd.

-
Takashimaya basement has undergone a renovation. It now has Harrods and several new Japanese themes stores outside of the cold storage. There used to be an Oaks Wine Cellar there. Now the newly opened wine shop is ENOTECA Co. Ltd. It has just opened 4 days ago.

Interestingly they have a very elaborate showcase with Mouton Rothschild from the various years as well as Chateau d'yquem in magnum and super magnum bottles. Their targetted customer base appears to be similar to Oaks, with the focus on luxury French wines.

They are having their Grand opening sale now...defintitely worth a look.

Wine News : The Wine Company@Changi Village

-
More good news for wine lovers, The Wine Company is opening their next outlet at Changi Village Hotel (planned for mid-Nov 2010). I happened to be there for a training course and saw the notice and future wine shop location. It was formerly a souvenir shop, a small outlet tucked at the beginning of the hotel. I give kudos to The Wine Company for finding relaxed, comfortable, tranquil areas for their outlets.

The owner of The Wine Company suggests that "if you are planning on visiting, here's a little tip: Instead of the shorter route via the PIE, drive via the tarmac of the airport. It may be a longer way, but I always enjoy this more scenic route. After all, I am not in a hurry; there is beauty in the road less travelled."

The sale includes :-

I took a quick glance at the price list and though there are substantial discounts, the bulk of the wines are the newer 2006 and 2007 which I am not particularly excited about.

The Sauternes half bottles of 2005 de Fargues and 2005 Suduiraut, did perk my interest.

Wine News : Asset Wine Management Fiasco

News on the Asset Wine Management Fiasco. It is also sad that the reputation of wine has been tarnished because of a few black sheep. This is the second Wine investment company after Universal Asset Group.

The old adage still applies everywhere be it wine/investments/money "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Do you seriously expect to get returns of 20 percent within a period of two to three months? Nonetheless, my sympathy to those investors who were deceived by these con people.

Wine Sale : Crystal Wines - 2005s on sale!

-
Crystal Wine is offering sales on their stash of 2005 wines. Total of 24 reds but no Sauternes. Pricing ranging from the lowest at S$ 70 for Ch La Fleur de Bouard to S$780 for Ch La Mondotte.
Domaine de Chevalier 2005 WA92 looks to be the smart buy at S$103.

"Perfect in every aspect, 2005 wines are consistently highly rated across the level and it is hard to go wrong when you buy from this vintage! High quality grapes are ensured by the extremely favorable weather. Moreover, different winemaking techniques and decisions by the winemakers also resulted in a vast range of variety for customers to choose from. Reds, dry and sweet whites are all said to be wonderful for this vintage."

Wine Shops : The Wine Gallery and Crystal Wines

-
Both The Wine Gallery [No. 2 Chang Charn Road (Off Hoy Fatt Road)] and Crystal Wines [491 River Valley Road #01-02/03 Valley Point Singapore 248371] are having their Great Singapore Sales of wines this weekend!

The Wine Gallery had the wine tasting in their warehouse setup with about 9-10 distributors and their wines, I got a Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 for $32.50 highly dark heavy fruit flavours with a commendable length and a Bleasdale Late Picked Riesling for a value buy of $16.50 with light almond fig sweetness minus the usual lemon citrus punch. They also had nice German Rieslings, of worthy mention were the Schloss Lieser Helden Spatlese from 2003,2004 and 2005, of which the 2005 stood out with more flavourful lychee, lemon sweetness with less acidity and nice flora aromas.
Excellent service, friendly and generous pours of wine, The Wine Gallery staff and their distributors made everyone feel at home and most customers were enjoying themselves.
Keep up the great work!

Crystal Wines had a bunch of 30 wines outside the shop for tasting such as Mitolo Jester, Tamar Range Pinot Noir, Battle of Bosworth Shiraz etc. I tasted a few interesting Pinot Noirs and enjoyed the Aussie Mouton Estate Hawk's Bay the best. There was a light sweet bubbly sparkling wine from Italy 5% alcohol only- Moscato going for $23. It's essentially ice cream soda with alcohol, but very popular among the customers. The attendants were friendly and offered the wines when asked. I got the Chateau Doisy Vedrines Sauternes 2002 (375ml) for $33.
