Wine Entry : Gewurztraminer Nuslee 2004 (German)

-
-

I went over to C.K.'s house to pass him the bottle of New Zealand's Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. He bartered with me this bottle of Gewurztraminer Nuslee which he had gotten from the wine company. He had another extra so he opened it, and we shared together, nice and refreshing for such a warm evening. The decorative tulips were bought from France. Goes well with the wine in the photo rite?

Smell : Ripened lychee fruit aroma

Taste : Mildly sweet, low alcohol lychee and lemon taste refreshing

After-taste : Quick finish no bitter lingering taste

Wine Tasting Event (21 April 2006)

-
-

Went for a wine tasting event with CK and his wife at my swimming club. This was the sixth wine tasting session organized by the club, there was even a lucky draw and guess what, the prizes were also wine.
Met several old friend there who are members of the club too. It costs about twenty dollars per person, but comes with light snacks and even with honey baked ham, so I would say it is a relatively good deal. The club had invited two of the wine merchants, Hock Tong Bee and Petra Foods. Both had good wines and were generous with sharing. Their German Riesling was pretty good and reasonably priced at $31.

Looking forward to similar future events!

Wine Entry : Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 Limited Ed (Australia)

-
-
Think that my brother got this from Australia when he was over there for exercise in 2002/2003? This has been aged for about 9 years and I’m impressed with the quality of the wine as well as the cork. Did not have any problems with the cork disintegrating, I used the traditional butterfly corkscrew rather than my fancy one, and the cork came out easily. I’m still puzzled if it is the wooden material or the corkscrew that made the larger difference. But glad that I did not need to go thro’ all the trouble of sieveing the wine. The wine retained a very deep intense opaque red colour, atypical for a wine that has cellared for about 9 years. I give this wine the thumbs UP!

Smell : The first nose is of ripen cherries, followed by a nice pleasant floatly fruity smell. Surprising there are also no oaky scents.

Taste : The wine first strikes me as a very fruity taste and smooth with no tannins, but gets more complex as it trickles down the throat, changing texture as it goes.

After-taste : Slight taste of chocolate and cigar smoke, but pleasant and non-astringent

Description at the back of the label :

Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the oldest established winery in Australia’s most celebrated fine wine region – Coonawarra. The Estate was founded by pioneer John Riddoch, who planted vineyards in 1891 and completed the estate’s famous triple gabled winery in 1896.
Coonawarra owes its unique reputation as a wine region to a thin layer of rich red soil “terra rossa” which lies over porous limestone, providing its vines with ideal drainage conditions to produce intensely flavoured grapes. These grapes also benefit from a long, slow ripening season due to Coonawarra’s cool southern climate. This is Coonawarra Cabernet at its best. Intensely varietal and tightly structured, with volumes of ripe Cabernet fruit complemented by charry French oak. Needs long term cellaring to bring out the richness and the complexity of this powerful Cabernet.

Wine Entry : Longview Estate Northland Un-oaked Chardonnay 2004 (New Zealand)

-
-

Over a nice dinner, I enjoyed this wine in New Zealand with friends/colleagues. Have not seen this wine in Singapore before, likely because it is a relatively small vineyard and domestic consumption/demand is higher than supply. A very nice fragrant fruity and refreshing chardonnay. Smooth easy to drink when the wine is relatively young.

Wine Entry : Chateau Teyssier Bordeaux 2002 (French)

-
-

J.Lim brought this bottle over to our house, believed she bought it from DFS. I had put it into the fridge for a couples of weeks already, so drunk it cold which dampened it’s aromas. In the glass, it was a medium, maroon colour.

Smell : Cherry, raspberry aroma with pine/oak/flora scents

Taste : Less fruity than Aussie or New World wines, liquorish in character, medium bodies with soft tannins.

After-taste : Slight spice and oaky finish

Description at back of bottle :
The origin of this chateau goes back to the 11th and 12th centuries. In the middle ages monks began to plant their vines here. Located in the village of Blasimon, 35 km east of ordeaux, the vineyar is superbly positioned around the chateau. With a deep ruby red colour, it release great aromatic richness in which the blackcurrent notes standout. It is medium bodied ample and well-rounded in the mouth with wonderfully mellow tannins. In the finish it demonstrates suppleness and good length. In total 88,710 bottles are available. Blend for the vintage includes 58% merlot, 32% cabernet franc, 10% cabernet sauvignon.

Wine at Dempsey with Audrey, Eileen and Jamie

-
-
Hiya all, back at Dempsey Road Wine Company again, but now with our chem eng classmates. It was the first time for Jamie and Audrey, I believed they were quite impressed with the quaint and yuppie atmosphere to chill out. Audrey could not find the place with the terracotta statues and I had to walk out to the Wine Network to fetch her in.

We had again the German Spatale which when chilled sufficiently enough really tasted delicious and refreshing, the Genesis Merlot was going fast and I believe they only have one or two more bottles left.
Well here are some pics from their brochure and directions for all those interested in visiting the place. Just remember to invite me to a drink if you see me there too!
