Wine Book : Chateaux of the Medoc by Ken Kincaid

-

Found this great book at the Harris bookstore of Great World City, I was a bit surprised that the price was reasonable at S$18. It gives as short, straight to the point description of the individual chateau and their history, with nice photos of the cellars, vineyards and estates. The only gripe I have is that they are mostly black and white. The book covers the appellations of Haut-Medoc, Margaux, Moulis, Saint Julien, Pauillac and Saint Estephe.

I particularly like the write-up on Mouton-Rothschild, and their bid to be included into the patheon of classifed first growth wines established in 1855. They adopted the motto, "Premier ne suis, second ne daigne, Mouton suis" which is translated as "First I cannot be, second I will not be, Mouton I am."

When they finally got elevated to first growth status in 1973, the motto changed to "Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change", which becomes, "First I am, second I was, Mouton doesn't change."

Wine Entry : Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2005(New Zealand)

Was suppose to have drunk this wine at a BBQ, but we were too full and this bottle has been kept in my fridge for sometime (pardon the torn label). It was pretty close to the typical Sauvignon Blancs from NZ priced at a nice S$28. The closure is screw cap and in the glass a pale sunlight beam yellow.

Smell : Citrus, lemon, cucumber and freshly cut hay.

Taste : Infusion of citrus, grassy feel in the mouth.

After-taste : Crisp, dry acidity and a touch of almond bitterness.

Description at back of bottle :
The grape for this wine were selected from low yielding vineyards in Marlborough. Using modern viticultural and wine making techniques, this wine has a wide range of aromas and flavours from tropical fruit and stonefruit through to herbaceousness. Appealing now, the wine will develop more intensity over time.

Guest Wine Review: Matchsoon Plum Wine

Hello everyone... This is from desdragon's favourite Korean restaurant where i am now a memmer, Ju Shin Jung. (Good for lunch buffets but horrendously expensive for dinner)

Anyway this plum wine has golden flakes!

Description:Matchsoon Gold is the brand produced for the celebration of the 10-year birthday of Matchsoon. 99 percent pure gold flakes are mixed and its noble features are well harmonized with its tempting aroma.Volume :375ml Alcohol :14%

Its fragrant and the plum taste comes on strong first and unfortunately, i drank it the korean way, which is by shot glasses and was very very red by 2 glasses.

This makes for a pretty drink more than anything else.. :)
Sorry my handphone camera is pretty bad, not sure if you can see the gold flakes!
